Privacy Policy

This notice explains how your personal information will be collected and handled through the State of the Environment Report (SoER) Engagement Hub platform.

The SoER is an independent report, which combines scientific, traditional and local knowledge to assesses the state of Australia’s environment.

It aims to help shape policy and action, influence behaviours, and assess our actions as stewards of the Australian environment. The Commonwealth Government is required to deliver a SoER every 5 years.

The most recent SoER was released in 2021 and the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (Commonwealth DCCEEW) is currently preparing the next SoER for release in December 2026.

Commonwealth DCCEEW will be collecting and using the personal information that you provide through the Engagement Hub platform for the purpose of delivering the SoER.

What personal information will be collected?

Commonwealth DCCEEW will collect the following personal information about you:

• Your name;
• Your email address;
• Your phone number;
• The organisation/s you are representing (if applicable); and
• Your interest/opinions regarding SoER content, design, or approaches.

How will your personal information be used and disclosed?

Commonwealth DCCEEW will be collecting and using the personal information that you provide through the Engagement Hub page to:

• Build and update the SoER mailing list;
• Contact you with updates and information about the SoER; and
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement to inform and deliver the SoER. 

Your personal information will be handled in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the DCCEEW Privacy Policy.

Your personal information may be disclosed to other Commonwealth Government staff that are involved with supporting the delivery of the SoER.

You can choose not to provide the requested information.

You can choose to participate anonymously or use a pseudonym. You can also choose not to provide your personal information; however this may mean that it will not be possible for us to engage further with you regarding the SoER.
